When Powerhire were contacted by a new client for the provision of long term hire of a back up generator as a replacement for an existing generator that had been on their site for many years, we were only too happy to oblige.

Our technical Sales Manager was well aware of the temporary generator at this site and was only too pleased to set up a meeting with the client to discuss further.

On meeting with the client, it was explained that the generator was situated at roof level of a 2 storey shopping centre and car park. During one of the client meetings it was determined that the client’s initial request of a 100kVA generator as a like for like replacement for the standby generator that they currently had on site, and had for 8+ years, was undersized and insufficient for their needs. After further discussion between our technical Sales Manager and the client’s Site Manager it was decided that a 200kVA standby generator was required and sufficient to fully cover the required services should a mains failure occur.

Prior to any agreement, our technical Sales Manager met with our transport manager and operations manager to discussed the required equipment, logistics of delivering to site and the process of offloading the equipment at site due to the height restriction barrier at the entrance to the car park.

It was agreed that we would use our own low-height road tow trailers and generator to overcome the issue with regards to the height restrictions and after much calculation agreed that we could position the 200kVA road tow generator on site and get under the height restricted barriers for a very minimal delivery cost to the client.

Once the client was happy with the arrangements and on the agreed date of installation, our Sales Manager arranged for our HiAb lorry to deliver the road tow generator and offload at the 1stfloor level of the car park. Due to the height restriction barrier this was as far as they could go. Once the generator was offloaded, it was hitched up to one of our vehicles, towed up to the open-air rooftop car park and put in position ready for installation and commissioning by our own engineers.

Once commissioned and demonstrated to the client, we left a happy client full in the knowledge that they were protected should they have a power outage and with the responsibility on us for the fuel management when the set needs topping up.
