The Port of Dover is home to the busiest international 24/7 roll-on roll-off ferry port in Europe it handles up to 160km of freight in a single day as well as large amounts of tourist traffic through its eight ferry berths, multiple assembly parks and custom built infrastructure.
The Eastern Docks accommodates a busy general cargo and is surrounded by historic breakwaters.
Since 2012 Dover Port has been undergoing a traffic Management Improvement Project with several phases of construction, keeping the port operational the works are anticipated to finish in 2015.
Early in 2014 Powerhire became involved in phase 5 of the construction works, the demolition of the Travel Centre and No1 Control Building.
A small aspect of this project commenced in March with Powerhire providing, on request from the client, a couple of small temporary
generators and a fuel tank which powered cabins and site demolition machinery.
The majority of the works were then carried out in the latter months of 2014. This time Powerhire were asked to attend site in order to specify the necessary temporary power required to power the heavy machinery and associated equipment requiring for the demolition of the building and the ripping out of asbestos. The client also specifically requested us to provide our quietest equipment possible!
At the agreed start date Powerhire’s logistical team arrived onsite to drop off 13 transformers, a super silent 60kVA and 100kVA generators,
fuel tanks and the necessary cabling to power their machinery, hoist and decontamination unit.
The project ran smoothly and finished on time at which point Powerhire returned to site to collect their equipment.
