Power Hire Package for Anniversary Celebrations
In 1994, in what was regarded as one of the biggest engineering achievements of the modern age, The Channel Tunnel opened for business with a huge sense of pride and achievement for both Britain and France.
At 37.9 kilometres (23.5 mi), the Channel Tunnel has the longest underwater section of any tunnel in the world carrying an average of 60,000 passengers through the tunnel each day, along with 4,600 trucks, 140 coaches and 7,300 cars.
It was recognised as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Modern World” by the American Society of Civil Engineers, alongside the Empire State Building, the Itaipu Dam in South America, the CN Tower in Toronto, the Panama Canal, the North Sea protection works in the Netherlands, and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
With the Channel Tunnel celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, Eurotunnel wanted to host a party for its 400 employees and their families to mark this achievement and their success over the past 25 years.
The party was to take place at the Samphire Hoe Country Park situated at the base of The White Cliffs of Dover in Kent, which was created by using the 4.9 million cubic metres of chalk marl from the Channel Tunnel excavations.
Having provided temporary power for Eurotunnel previously, it was an honour to be contacted once again to help out with this special event. Following email exchanges between our sales manager and the Eurotunnel Communications Team resulting in a site visit by our sales manager and senior engineer to ensure the equipment proposed for the planned event, which included a combination of daytime entertainment for families including stalls and attractions in addition to the evening event involving a live band, DJ, silent disco and catering to serve 400 people concluding with an energetic French Can-Can dancing show, was sufficient to make sure the party ran without any disruptions.
It was proposed and agreed that the supply of 2 x 200kVA event generators, various distribution and cabling would be adequate to power this celebratory occasion.
Due to the Country Park having no outside lighting we were also asked to provide lighting towers around the site to deliver enough light to ensure safe passage to all at the end of the evening.
The whole day of celebrations was a huge success, enjoyed by everyone who attended, with the customer very happy with the quality of service that Powerhire provided. We were honoured and thankful that Eurotunnel chose Powerhire for this event and look forward to working together on many more.
