Powerhire were contacted by a local glass and double glazing manufacturer for a rental generator to power their glass furnace.

A glass works furnace is an integral part of the well-oiled process of glass manufacturing, so when this Kent based glass company discovered that their permanent onsite generator, that powers their furnace, failed to start, immediate action was required to ensure business operations and customers’ orders were fulfilled.

The glass company’s furnace is in constant operation producing literally tonnes of glass during its operating lifetime.  It is very unlikely that it is ever switched off to enable it to maintain an ideal temperature at all times.  Early one Monday morning on entering the premises the discovery that the furnace had broken down and completely stopped working was not ideal!  The PA to the MD contacted her usual contact at Powerhire to see how quickly he could get a rental generator ready for purpose, loaded, delivered, set up and installed at their site to get the furnace back up and running to the correct ambient temperature in order to  minimalise disruption to their business and its customers.

We knew the site well and both parties agreed that a 500kVA rental generator would be sufficient.  Powerhire’s Rental Coordinator immediately logged into the system to ascertain which 500kVA rental generator was available for immediate loading onto our HIAB for delivery to site together with a 3,000ltr fuel tank and the relevant rental cabling to make all the necessary connections.

Our Generator Engineers delivered the rental package to site.  They made the necessary connections from our rental generator to the client’s onsite generator’s breaker.  This enabled our engineers to make use of the onsite generators hard wired cabling that is permanently installed into their connection point within the building.

The rental generator was commissioned and started up and the furnace was working and back in business by 6pm that same day.  Disruption to the company was kept to a minimum and the temporary rental generator enabled the fault finding mission on the onsite generator to take place.
